Baker Newman Noyes Promotes John Hadwen and Tom Widman to Tax Principal

PORTLAND, Maine and BOSTON and WOBURN, Mass. – Baker Newman Noyes  (BNN), a nationally-recognized top 100 accounting and advisory firm, promoted John Hadwen, CPA, and Tom Widman, CPA, MST, to principal in the firm’s tax practice.

Hadwen, of North Berwick, Maine, joined Baker Newman Noyes in 2008 as a staff member in the tax practice. Since then, he has grown his career at BNN and leads the Partnership/Subchapter K practice group. Hadwen specializes in federal and state taxation of individuals, partnerships, and S Corporations and primarily serves clients in the retail, real estate, and professional services industries. He has extensive experience in partnership tax compliance and tax planning including mergers, acquisitions, and terminations; like kind exchanges; drop and swap transactions; and computation of Section 754 basis adjustments. In addition, Hadwen is a key member of the firm’s task force for the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act including writing articles, training, and presenting internally and externally on the new 20% qualified business income deduction, the vastly expanded business interest expense limitation, and other tax reform topics. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Maine.

Hadwen is based in the firm’s Portland, Maine headquarters.

Widman, of Concord, Massachusetts, joined Baker Newman Noyes in 2018 from a Big 4 firm in Boston. He specializes in serving both publicly and privately-held C corporations. He has vast experience providing tax accounting services, as well as designing and implementing tax-effective corporate structures, and assisting with highly sophisticated income tax accounting issues and internal control documentation. He is also well-versed in advising clients on mergers, acquisitions and international tax issues. Widman earned a bachelor’s degree in corporate finance and accounting and a master’s degree in taxation from Bentley University.

Widman is based in the firm’s new Woburn, Massachusetts office, which was recently opened in January 2020.
