BNN recently attended the Baker Tilly International 2019 Americas Regional Conference in Orlando, Florida. Among the attendees were Dayton Benway, Leanne Scott, Ciaran Devery, Josh Lapierre, Stuart Lyons, Patrick Morin, and Merrill Barter. The conference provided great opportunities for networking and the International Tax team made connections with peers from all over the world. Merrill Barter presented a state and local tax update to a crowd of approximately 200 attendees, and Patrick Morin was recognized for his expertise in SOC work being referred to as a “go-to” professional in the Baker Tilly network.

BNN and Bicycle Coalition of Maine team up to build and donate 28 brand-new children’s bicycles
PORTLAND, Maine ― Turning the typical team-building exercise on its head, nearly 200 employees from accounting and advisory firm Baker Newman Noyes gathered at Thompson’s Point on Friday, June 14 for the firm’s annual all-firm outing. Employees were split into teams and given the task of assembling 28 brand-new children’s bicycles from a pile of parts as an exercise in teamwork, communication, and collaboration.

BNN’s Jim Usseglio recently attended a meeting in Washington, DC of the AICPA Partnership Taxation Technical Resource Panel (TRP) of which he is a member. The meeting included discussions with members of the IRS and Treasury regarding various partnership tax issues and recent developments. The Partnership TRP meets twice a year and works to monitor legislative and regulatory activity, offer advice on specific tax law issues and maintain appropriate relationships with the IRS, Treasury, Congress and other government officials.

John Rizzo spoke at the NH Bankers Association’s 2019 Compliance Conference. John’s presentation, The Importance of Risk Assessment in Developing and Maintaining an Effective AML Program, covered the AML recap and recent trends as well as Risk Assessment considerations for various business areas and enhancing AML programs in light of Risk Assessment.

Steven Webb, along with guest speakers Jennifer Peary, of Information Builders, and Jamie Jackson, of Arkatechture, presented to a group of over 50 attendees on the importance of data management in today’s increasingly digital world.
