BNN in the community this June!

BNN attends Purses with Purpose

BNN spent time in our local communities this June! At the beginning of the month, some of our New Hampshire based team ran the Easterseals 5K on June 5. Funds were raised to help provide essential services to children and adults with disabilities, older adults, veterans, and their families.

Also on June 5, BNN attended the Ronald McDonald House Charities Maine Purses with Purpose event. RMHC Maine‘s mission is to provide essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing when children need healthcare.

BNN sponsored and attended the Girl Scouts of Maine’s Cookies and Cocktails event on June 5 as well. Girl Scouts create the world they want to live in and strive to make it better every single day, exploring their strengths, taking on new challenges, and always being themselves, regardless of background or ability.

“Community involvement affords me the opportunity to meet others in the greater community and to learn more about the causes that they’re passionate about. I enjoy coming together to work towards a common goal,” said BNN Audit Experienced staff, Marlys Mason.

BNN has partnered with Canal School in Westbrook, Maine for our annual pen pal program. At the beginning of the school year, a BNN Portland employee is paired with a student, and they exchange letters throughout the year. On June 6, we met our pen pals in person for a pizza party to celebrate the end of the school year!

“Volunteering in our community is important to me because I love to help people. BNN’s commitment to doing so means a lot, since it enables me to help more people and make our community a better place,” said BNN Tax Supervising Senior, Kyle Lonabaugh.

BNN interns at Great Bay

Our new class of interns volunteered at the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve on June 11. The Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve provides place-based science, data, education programs, workshops, and technical assistance to help understand and protect the lands and waters that are the cultural and economic heart of communities in New Hampshire’s Great Bay watershed.

On June 20, BNN participated in the United Way of Southern Maine’s Day of Action. The team went to Ruth’s Reusable Resources and employees spent the day packing, cleaning, and organizing supplies in the Teacher Store. The work created space on the shelves for new books to be put out, made it possible for craft supplies to be distributed more efficiently, and made it easier for staff to identify and transport seasonal items between the warehouse and store as needed.

Carolyne Obery, BNN Executive Assistant, said, “One of my personal values is helping others, and I have always sought employment at organizations that share this value. BNN’s commitment to service gives me confidence that the firm truly believes in doing the right thing for its clients and communities, which in turn motivates me to do my best for the firm. The world is a better place when we care about others!”

Also on June 20, BNN volunteered at Drive Fore Kids, a celebrity golf tournament that raises money to benefit the Dempsey Center and MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital. These organizations provide care for those struggling with health challenges in the Maine community.

“Even before college, I had always volunteered at different sporting events or soccer camps in my town and I continued to do so as I have left school,” said BNN Tax Supervising Senior, Gage Kennedy. “To me, these sporting events where a way to give back to my community and to show in some way or form as to how sports changed my life and that it can change anyways life. Being able to do so now, and having the firm be committed to giving back to the community means a lot to me.”

On June 26, BNN volunteered at Partners for World Health, an organization dedicated to providing medical supplies to third world countries. The team toured the facility, learned about the history of the organization, and sorted medical supplies for shipping.

BNN Reports Department Manager, Stacy Kirk, said “Partners for World Health relies on volunteers to get the medical supplies boxed up and shipped off to countries that desperately need them. It makes a huge impact to the company and it’s so rewarding to be able to help!”

We are only as strong as the communities we serve. Whether participating in a fundraiser, serving on a nonprofit board, partnering with a local school, volunteering to clean up a local park, or serving food at a shelter, we strive to be a meaningful part of our communities. Employees throughout BNN answer the call to “give back” through participation and leadership in our hometowns.
