Our StoryThe story of Baker Newman Noyes began in 1929 when Lincoln Adam moved to Maine and joined the accounting firm of Millet, Fish & Dresser. That same year, the Portland, ME office of Ernst & Ernst opened. In 1938 Richard Baker, the grandfather of one of our Principals, moved to Maine and formed a tax accounting firm. Richard and Lincoln joined forces in Portland in 1942 as Baker & Adam. KPMG acquired Baker & Adam in 1963. Between 1974 and 1989 Ernst & Ernst underwent a series of mergers resulting in the firm of Ernst & Young. The Portland, ME practice of Ernst & Young was purchased in 1992 by its local partners — Al Noyes, Tom Newman, Marty White, Scott Belanger, Angus Mountain, Bill Christensen and Paul Letalien — forming the firm of Newman, Noyes & Associates. Tom, Marty, Scott and Paul remain partners of our firm today. Al Noyes and Bill Christensen have retired and remain good friends of BNN. Angus Mountain worked for the firm until his death in May 2004. In 1995 Newman, Noyes & Associates merged with the partners of KPMG Portland office — Ellie Baker, Peter Chandler, Jim Totten, Denise Taaffe, George Lambert and Joseph Lovejoy. Ellie, Peter, Denise and Joe are still partners of the firm today. Jim and George have since retired. With this merger in 1995, the firm of Baker Newman Noyes was formed. Since 1995, the firm has grown to become one of the largest CPA and business consulting firms in New England. The Manchester, NH office of BNN was opened in 1999. |
